Wine Review – 2007 Mouton Cadet Bordeaux
Welcome to my very first wine review! My lovely Lauren and I are going to try to keep up the reviews on a regular basis. Our goal is to do at least two reviews a week. We will focus our reviews on inexpensive wines. Why? Well, both of us are poor college students! Both Lauren and I are newer to wine tasting but have grown to love and enjoy it, which we feel is rare for the average people in their early twenties. Our hope is that our wine reviews will help other people our age, or those who are just starting to learn about wine make good purchasing choices on their wines. Neither of us have exceptional palates, nor do we consider ourselves experts! Enjoying wine is definitely an adventure, so please explore with us!
2007 Mouton Cadet Bordeaux
Origin: France
Price: $10-12
Where to buy: Albertsons, Safeway, wine.com
I have been biased by ONLY drinking Washington Wines, and finally I have ventured out to try other well known wine regions. This was our very first Bordeaux, and we were both very pleased! Mouton Cadet is one of the best selling wines in the world. In 2002 they sold over 15 million bottles! For $10 this was a great introduction to Bordeaux wines. Bordeaux is typically a blend of five varieties of grapes. Mouton Cadet is Merlot (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Cabernet Franc (15%).
The initial aroma of Mounton Cadet Bordeaux is nicely bold and spicy. The aroma of Cabernet Sauvignon certainly outweighs the Merlot. When it comes to taste, Mounton Cadet hits your tongue with the perfect amount of spiciness, with a surprising finish of a soft yet pleasant Merlot flavor. Considering that Lauren and I are experts at pairing food with wine (ha!) we combined this wine with Twix, Milkyways, and White-Cheddar Cheez-its! Very classy! I always recommend the Cheez-its with wine.
Rating: 7/10 – Great introduction to Bordeaux!
